I have worked with Woven since the first festival and have been part of the steering group supporting idea development and decision making for the coming Woven festival in June 2021.
In the Summer 2020 I launched the Kirklees Pandemic Creativity Project and was overwhelmed by the response from the public who wanted to share their examples of creativity throughout the Pandemic and lockdown. It has been a challenging time for all of us and outlets to connect feel especially important.
In the Woven open meetings to discuss ideas for the festival and progress, one idea that came through strongly was for Woven to celebrate in some way, how textiles have supported our local response to the Pandemic. The meetings are open to all and further details can be found here.
In response to that, Hatch Projects, who create and curate the festival asked me to design a way of responding to this that could be integrated in the forthcoming festival. From this they have commissioned me to undertake a period of research and collecting stories to be part of this project which I will present as an online digital resource as part of the festival programme.
I am also working with a film maker to create a short film showcasing these inspiring responses.
If you want to tell me about your textile creativity or a project that you are aware of please use the form here to tell me about it and I will be in touch soon. If you have any questions at all, you can email me using Nicola@Nicolatwynham.co.uk.
